The Quincentennial Foundation Museum Of Turkish Jews
The Quincentennial Foundation was established in 1989 by a group of 113 Turkish citizens, Jews and Muslims. Having founded and having had a headquarter in Istanbul, the Quincentennial Foundation planned a three-year-cultural and academic programme (between 1990-1992) both within Turkey and abroad, mainly in the U.S, Canada and Mexico on American continent; France, United Kingdom and different countries in Europe. The Quincentennial Foundation embarked on a very ambitious program as befits the greatness of the occasion. What Turkish Jews lacked in numbers, they made up it with enthusiasm and commitment. They directed Turkish Jewry into a greater audience.
Ashkenaz Synagogue is an Ashkenazi Synagogue located near the Galata Tower in Istanbul.
It is the only active Ashkenazi Synagogue in Istanbul for the time being. The Synagogue was founded by Jews of Autrian origin in 1900. It is also the last remaining synagogue among a total of three built by Ashkenazim. It’s a great old building, but because of security concerns, you can’t get inside without clearance from Turkey’s Grand Rabbinate, a few blocks away in Beyoglu near Tunel Square.
Neve Shalom, towards the end of the 1930s. The Jewish population on the district of Pera and Galata increased so much that the need for a new synagogue turned out to be a requirement.
The Etz Ahayim Synagogue
Also know as the Ortakoy Synagogue, it is a synagogue located in Ortakoy, Istanbul on the coast just near the right leg of Bosphorus Bridge. The synagogue was totally destoyed by fire in 1941 and only the marble Aron Kodesh remained left. The synagogue was subsequently rebuilt.
